      <image:title>About - Heather Shaw</image:title>
      <image:caption>Since 1998, I have been a student of yoga and meditation, steeped in the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as Western psychotherapy and neuroscience. Embodied practice is at the root of my offerings, which are influenced by my unique background in dance/choreography, combined with nearly two decades of yoga teaching experience, all underpinned by dedicated scholarship in both dharmic philosophy and contemplative psychotherapy. HeartMind is an expression of the Sanskrit word Bodhichitta, and describes a deeply felt sense of knowing. Bodhi is often translated as awake, while the word chitta means both mind and heart, implying that they are inseparable from one another. This awakened HeartMind informs all of one’s actions, and gives rise to the sincere wish to awaken this liberated quality in others. It is at once an expression of wisdom and compassion. In my experience as the mother of two, parenting has perhaps been one of the most powerful teachings on Bodhichitta - humbling me while simultaneously increasing my capacity for joy. Simply put, things like yoga, meditation and study can elevate our consciousness, but they must also be applicable to our everyday lives, so in my work, I aspire to make practice personal, intuitive and practical. Coming from this place, I find that my life and the lives it touches have become my source material, my practice, my path. This is my offering.</image:caption>

We don’t always have control over the outer circumstances in our lives, but we CAN practice to shift our own ways of being in relationship with ourselves, which in turn, also begins to shift the way we are in relationship with others. And perhaps the best (and juiciest, most “real”) place to start is close to home -- or even AT home. Or at work. Or school.
